Police recover stolen gold jewellery
City police arrested a man and recovered Rs. 22 lakh
worth gold jewellery and house hold articles here on Wednesday.
Addressing presspersons in Hasthampatti police station,
City Police Commissioner K.C. Mahali said that a crime detection team led by
Inspector of Police A. Venkatesan, Sub Inspector Jeevanantham and constables
were involved in vehicle check at Hasthampatti Roundabout and arrested R.
Suresh alias Suresh Kumar (32) of Dadagapatti.
Enquiries revealed that he was involved in five
house breaking cases that took place in the city.
Based on his confession, the police recovered 66
sovereign gold jewellery, 10 kg silver articles, Rs. 4 lakh work electronic
goods and household articles from his house and his mother’s house. Mr. Mahali
appreciated the team involved in the recovery.
To a question about steps taken to prevent crime in
the city, Mr. Mahali said that crime detection teams constituted in all police
station have prepared ‘habitual offenders’ list and their activities are
closely monitored.
“A total of 24 persons were detained under the
Goondas Act in the past five months as against 70 in the whole of 2012.
Stringent action would be taken against criminals and persons disturbing
peace,” he added.
About the double murder case in Sevvapet seven
months ago, Mr. Mahali said that 350 suspects were questioned and three persons
were being tracked. He was confident that the case would be solved soon.
Asked about more youngsters involving themselves in
crime activities, he said that their profiles, photographs and finger prints
were sent to all police stations and action taken.
Deputy Commissioners of Police A.G. Babu (Law and
Order), J. Ravindran (Crime and Traffic), Assistant Commissioner of Police,
North Range (Crime) P. Ashokan and others were present.
