Governor’s adviser K. Vijay Kumar today stressed filling vacancies
during a review of police modernization projects and assessment of the
state CID and special branch (intelligence).
Highly placed
officials said Kumar, a former CRPF director-general, reviewed the state
security apparatus during a high-level meeting that was attended by
senior officers at the police headquarters here.

Sources in the police headquarters said Kumar emphasised on filing
posts of mid-rung police officers including assistant sub-inspectors and
sub-inspectors, besides developing projects undertaken by the police
housing corporation.
He questioned about anti-landmine vehicles
used by Jharkhand police at present and the intensity of blasts they
could sustain. He also wanted to know about developments in the
modernization projects, which are largely funded by the Center.
“It was a general review of ongoing and coming police modernization
plans. Kumar also reviewed functioning of CID and special branch
(intelligence) wings of police,” said a home department source.
The high-level meeting was convened at a time the state has seen a spurt in crime.
Yesterday, while two men, involved with a construction project, were
shot dead in Simdega by unknown assailants, while another was shot dead
in an empty compartment of Jharsuguda-Tatanagar passenger train in
Khunti.
Kumar also held a video-conferencing session with
deputy commissioners and reviewed projects concerning his departments
