The district police administration has set up an anti-ragging cell, a police helpline centre, at its headquarters to prevent ragging in higher educational institutions, said Superintendent of Poli...ce Praveen Kumar Abinapu.

Phone numbers

In a release issued here on Wednesday, he said that students could contact the centre either through mobile numbers 75986 89138 and 75986 89141 or landline number 04546-253101 to lodge complaints of ragging and pass on information about ragging taking place in their institutions.

The police had also installed complaint boxes in all colleges and prime bus stops in the district. Students could drop their complaints in these boxes.

Immediate action would be initiated on the petitions in the complaint boxes, he assured.

Cases will be filed against those students involved in ragging under anti-ragging act and punishment will be around two-years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs.10,000.

The punished will also be removed from the college. The punished students will not be permitted to join any government or private jobs or obtain passport to work in foreign countries, the SP cautioned.
