"Team Headed by Tr.Sudhakar IPS, DC (Pulianthope) Cracked the case within four hours of finding the body"
"City Police Commissioner S George Appreciated the Pulianthope police for solving the case within four hours"
City police arrested a 21-year-old lover of a 52-year-old woman within
four hours of her body being found in a pool of blood at her residence
at Thiru Vi Ka Nagar in Pulianthope, on Wednesday.
Police said moneylender Durga Devi (52), a resident of Madurai Samy Madam East, was found lying in a pool of dry blood by her daughter Hemalatha of Ranipet, who had come to visit her around 5.30 pm. The other members of her family, including her husband Ramachandran, a retired MTC staff, reported jewellery missing from Durga Devi’s person.
On information, DC (Pulianthope police) R Sudhakar rushed to the spot and conducted investigations. The body was shifted to a government hospital for post-mortem. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the murder was committed on Tuesday evening. Durga Devi was feared in the locality and despite her not coming out of the house, none dared to check on her.
The information proved vital to the investigators as it suggested that the murderer could be a person known to the victim. Based on the input, the personnel checked for the regular visitors to her place and zeroed in on Karthi (21), a resident of Otteri and son of a Railway contract employee.
Karthi was picked up and during interrogation, confessed to the murder. Police recovered the missing jewellery and `5,000 in cash from him. Police said Karthi was in an illicit relationship with the deceased and used to visit her whenever Ramachandran was away. After learning that Ramachandran had gone to visit his daughter at Ranipet on Sunday, Karthi paid Durga a visit. He demanded money from her, which she refused. In a fit of rage, Karthi grabbed a knife from the kitchen and slit her throat. He left two grill gates and the wooden door open before decamping with gold and cash.
