Ashutosh Shukla replaces TK Rajendran as Chennai police chief & ADGP C. Sylendra Babu, who was heading the Coastal Security Group, has been posted as ADGP, Law and Order
On the recommendations of the Election Commission of India, the State Home Department on Sunday appointed senior police officer Ashutosh Shukla as the Commissioner of Police, Chennai city.
Ashutosh Shukla, who was serving as the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Prohibition Enforcement Wing, will take over from DGP T K Rajendren, who had held the post for less than a year.
Shukla would become the 102nd Commissioner of Police, Chennai. He had earlier served as IG, Special Action Force, CRPF before returning to the State cadre.
In another transfer, ADGP, Law and Order, J K Tripathy, has also been relieved of his position and Coastal Security Group ADGP Sylendra Babu will be replacing him, according to an order from the Home Department.
Sunday’s transfers come a day after the ECI appointed DGP K P Mahendran as the DGP (elections). Mahendran will be overseeing all poll-related duties involving police and he need not report to the State DGP, Ashok Kumar.
Three other police officers in the State were also shuffled on Saturday.
